Break My Fall
A Peccadillo Pictures release (U.K.), Professional-FUN media release (Germany) of the Break My Films production. (Worldwide sales: Reel Suspects, Paris.) Created by Billy Wiz, Matteo Rolleri, Kanchi Wichmann. Co-producer, Alex Thiele. Directed, compiled by Kanchi Wichmann. With: Kay Redstone, Sophie Anderson, Kai Brandon, Collin Clay Chace. The shifts between lassitude and rage inside a rocky lesbian relationship are frequently effectively woozy in Kanchi Wichmann's "Break My Fall." Even though pic betrays its roots like a short broadened to some feature, with several sequences that appear for everyone as narrative filler, the central concentrate on youthful rockers Liza (a combustible Kat Redstone) and Sally (a milder Sophie Anderson) indicates exactly what the British Free Cinema style may have appeared as if strained through publish-punk. Current U.K. and German releases, alongside fest dates, could open the doorway to help theatrical gigs. Within their ramshackle Hackney flat, Liza and Sally dwell less about the music their battling band is attempting to fashion (soundtrack is wealthy with strong indie band tracks) and much more on Liza's constantly bubbling jealousy about Sally's ex-lover in Berlin. A package in the ex sets the already uncertain Liza spinning, as well as short bouts of lovemaking don't quell Liza's boiling temperament. Male pals Vin (Kai Brandon) and Jamie (Collin Clay Chace) are poorly written afterthoughts, especially in comparison using the two women's primary event. Wichmann concludes on some Antonionian sadness that's brave.
