Zurich rolls out red carpet

BERLIN -- "The Help" stars Emma Stone and Viola Davis, and director Tate Taylor will be on hand at the Zurich Film Festival for the Swiss premiere of Disney's box office hit. The 7th edition of the fest, which runs Sept. 22-Oct. 2, is cranking up the star wattage this year with a growing roster of guests, and a strong lineup of high-profile films, including Jeremy Irons, who will be at the fest for the screening of "Margin Call," Maximilian Schell and fest honorees Sean Penn, Paul Haggis, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and Roman Polanski. Over the last seven years, we have worked hard to build a legitimate festival with an exceptional program that would be recognized on the world stage, and this year's lineup shows that we have turned the corner," said fest co-director Karl Spoerri. We are so happy with the support we are now receiving from filmmakers, distributors and actors in the Hollywood community, as well as our very important local markets, Switzerland, Germany and Austria. It has helped tremendously to elevate our status in the annual film festival calendar." This year's lineup includes Steven Soderbergh's "Contagion," which opens the fest, David Cronenberg's "A Dangerous Method," Steve McQueen's "Shame," "Restless," from Gus Van Sant, George Clooney's "Ides of March," Werner Herzog's "Cave of Forgotten Dreams" and Andrea Arnold's "Wuthering Heights." The Help" closes the fest on Oct. 2. Contact Ed Meza at staff@variety.com
